The Raiders have acquired QB Carson Palmer for a first Round Pick this year and a second round pick in 2013.  I like Carson Palmer, but I don’t think he is worth all that the Raiders are giving up to get him.  Teams count on first and second round picks to be starters and to add much-needed talent to their rosters.

In today’s NFL building through the draft is how the top franchises rise to become champions.  It’s rare that a team becomes great by trading away draft picks.  As a Redskins fan, I can attest to this, that it doesn’t work.  Why it is that teams still insist upon going this route, even though it’s proven not to work is unknown to me.

But who knows, there always a remote chance that it will work, but man, a first and second round pick on a so-so QB, I don’t see it.  However, I do see the Bengals getting the better end of this deal.  A QB they weren’t even using for a first and second round picks.  The Bengals did well for themselves here.  It seemed like the Raiders were making some progress, but some things never change.

Always a gamble when you give up so much to ‘win now’. However, that’s the mentality of Hue Jackson.. But to mortgage a team’s future on a aging QB (Palmer will be 33 in Dec.), is ludicrous to me. The 1st & 2nd round picks will be around long after Carson retires. Agree with you…”good for you Cincinnati!”

    Nice post!

Thank you for the comment. And I agree with you. I like Palmer, but he’s not worth all they gave up for him. The Raiders need a GM badly. Hue Jackson seems like a good coach but there’s a reason why you don’t see the Head Coach/GM thing any more, and it’s because of trades like this.
