Cowboys vs. Redskins - It doesn’t get much better than a prime time match up in the last game of the season to decide a division champion. What makes it even better is that the matchup is between two of the most bitter rivals in all of football in the Cowboys and the Redskins. It’s been a while since there was so much riding on the line between these two teams, and their fans probably wouldn’t have it any other way.
Both teams started the season fast with impressive victories, and then fell into slumps. However, both teams rebounded mid-season and are amongst the hottest in the league. The Redskins have won six straight games, and have beaten the likes of the Ravens and the Giants along the way, proving that they are a legitimate threat. They also defeated the Cowboys on the road, but must now sweep the season series to move forward.
The Cowboys have been winning by the skin of their teeth to stay alive in the playoff hunt, but a win is a win. And QB Tony Romo has been one of the major reasons the Cowboys are in this position. But the Question that has plague Romo his entire career is, can he come through with the goods when it matters the most?
Romo has to play his best, because one can only assume that rookie Robert Griffin III will be as he has all season. RGIII seems to live to for big time moments like this, and he knows the football world will be watching. His abilities as a runner will still be hampered some by his right knee injury, but Griffin has proven that his passing skills are even better than his skills as a runner, so it’s kind of like pick your poison.
I expect both QB ‘s to perform well though, so other factors will decide the game. Such as home field advantage. FedEx Field will be rocking in a way that it probably never has, as Redskins fans have been waiting for years to cheer their team in a game that matters. So the Cowboys will have to deal with an extremely hostile environment.
And defensively, the Redskins have been coming on lately and I expect their performance to be bolstered by a raucous crowd. Coach Mike Shanahan’s experience coaching in big games thorugh his career, may give him an advantage over Jason Garrett as well. I think Romo and the Cowboys will fight hard to the end, but the Redskins will come out on top. 28-23 – Redskins
