Pete Carroll’s decision-making helped the Seattle Seahawks emerge as a Super Contender.  Other coach’s leadership inspired their teams to great seasons as well.

Here are the Nominees for the 2013 Fan on Fire – Pro Football Awards: “Real” Coach of the Year Award

Instead of Putting together an “All” Team like a lot people do every year, last year I decided to put together my own awards list.  Not necessarily awarding the best statistically in any given position, but awards that matter to me, and maybe to some of you.

The Awards Nominees have been announced.  I now review the nominees in each category throughout the playoffs, and then on Super Bowl Eve I will announce the winners.  Last year it was all based on my opinion, but since I got such a good response I will include a poll on each review, and see who the “fans” think should win.  The poll results won’t be revealed until the winner is announced.

So here are the NOMINEES for the second annual 2013 Fan on Fire – Pro Football Awards: ”Real” Coach of the Year Award.

The “REAL” Coach of the year Award:  Typically this award goes to the coach who over achieved the most, or the coach whose team dominated the league.  But this award goes to the Coach who actually did the best coaching job this season.  And the Nominees in alphabetical order are:

  • Bruce Arians - Indianapolis Colts:  Arians stepped in as interim head coach for Chuck Pagano when he was out fighting Leukemia.  Arians helped develop rookie QB Andrew Luck and his steady brand of leadership led the Colts to a 9-3 record, and into the playoffs.

  • Pete Carroll - Seattle Seahawks:  Carroll took a huge gamble when he made rookie QB Russell Wilson his starting QB.  The Seahawks had brought Matt Flynn in to be the starter, but Carroll’s gamble with Wilson paid off big time.

  • Chuck Pagano - Indianapolis Colts:  Even though Pagano was out fighting Leukemia, he still had a hand in providing guidance and inspiration for the Colts.  He may not have been there every day, but Pagano’s leadership and determination inspired the Colts and helped get them to the playoffs..

Last Years winner:  Jim Harbaugh - San Francisco 49ers

It will be interesting to see what Arians can do in Arizona. I’m glad he’s getting a opportunity.

I think it may well take a few years to turn the Cardinals around , because in terms of the current quarterbacks on the roster , they are simply a lost cause . Kolb couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn , if his life depended on it !

The Cardinals should have a new QB by next season, more than likely a rookie drafted in the second round. And Arians did well with Andrew Luck, but the biggest problem the Cardinals face is beig in a tough division with the 49ers and Seahawks. Both of those teams already have sensational young QB’s.

You may be right about that. I like Arians though.
