The 12th man give the Seattle Seahawks a tremendous home field advantage, but is Seahawks Nation the Fan Base of the Year?  Other fan bases supported their teams admirably as well.

Here are the Nominees for the 2013 Fan on Fire – Pro Football Awards: Fan Base of the Year

Instead of Putting together an “All” Team like a lot people do every year, last year I decided to put together my own awards list.  Not necessarily awarding the best statistically in any given position, but awards that matter to me, and maybe to some of you.

The Awards Nominees have been announced.  I now review the nominees in each category throughout the playoffs, and then on Super Bowl Eve I will announce the winners.  Last year it was all based on my opinion, but since I got such a good response I will include a poll on each review, and see who the “fans” think should win.  The poll results won’t be revealed until the winner is announced.  But this is the only award where there is no poll, I choose the winner.

So here are the NOMINEES for the second annual 2013 Fan on Fire – Pro Football Awards: Fan Base of the Year Award.

The “Fans on Fire” – Fan base of the Year Award:  Goes to the most dedicated and “FIRED” up Fan Base in the NFL.

  • Colts Nation – Indianapolis Colts:  They lost Peyton Manning and had a lot uncertainty entering the 2012 season.  But Colts fans supported the team with a rookie QB in Andrew Luck and a head coach fighting Leukemia in Chuck Pagano.  The Colts went 7-1 at home and the fans played a big part in getting the Colts back to the playoffs.

  • Cowboys Nation – Dallas Cowboys:  I like to include a long-suffering fan base whose team didn’t make the playoffs with the nominees as well.  Cowboys fans are some of the most loyal in the NFL, but having to deal with Jerry Jones as an owner has to be a huge buzz kill, as Jones role as GM is seen as counterproductive to the long-term success of the team.  However, Cowboys fans remain loyal and ever hopeful that the team can return to it’s glorious tradition.

  • Seahawks Nation - Seattle Seahawks:  The Seahawks went 8-0 at home this season, and a major reason for that is the raucous environment that Seahawks fans create at CenturyLink Field.  The 12th Man contributed to the Seahawks return to the playoffs, and sends a message to all future opponents coming to Seattle that they should expect a loud and hostile experience.

Last Years winner:  Broncos Nation – Denver Broncos

Like the Academy Awards , I always like the acceptance speeches , when done without too much glad handing . . In the case of Ray Lewis there should be an award for the Most Over-Hyped Player In a Superbowl . Great , that he’s now found religion , but a decade ago , he played his part in the death of two individuals, killed by then members, of his entourage .

The deer antler extract has me thinking what other PED’s Lewis may have been using if any. Over-hyped in the Super Bowl, yes. But it can’t be denied that Ray Lewis is one of the greatest LB’s of all time.
