Joeckel is likely to be a top five pick in this draft , but having perused the cuts that have been made by the teams , it is extremely hard to say now , what is ultimately likely to happen .

NFL Draft 2012 . Merely a reminder of how things panned out .

When the Chiefs traded for Alex Smith, it ruled out that they would draft a QB with the number one pick, so we know that for sure now. They run a 3-4 defense and already have two pro bowlers at OLB, so they won’t draft Jarvis Jones, or Dion Jordan. And Bjoern Werner is a 4-3 DE, so he doesn’t fit their defense. Unless the Chiefs trade the pick, they will draf Joekel.

It will be intriguing to see what happens , especially in light of the changes made within the front office of the Chiefs . Both former GM Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel , had to go after that debacle of last season !

Hopefully , their recent draft history won’t be mirror of what might see this season !

The Chiefs should be OK with Reid, but I think they’d be better off with a real GM and with Reid focusing on coaching as opposed to being the President of Football Operations.

The Eagles operation seemed to go down hill the last few years with Reid in charge of all aspects of the football operation. So the Chiefs will be better with Reid, but I think there’s a ceiling on how good they can be.
I have yet to see one man successfully handle being the coach and GM simultaneously for an extended period of time. The Eagles just fired Andy Reid from that job, and he had no super bowl wins to show for it.

          • Tophatal

Reid’s responsibilities should only encompass the personnel and at the time of the draft . Beyond that his duties should be the preparation of the players and getting them game ready . In his latter years, Andy Reid , was given way too much latitude and to my mind Eagles’ GM Howie Roseman became a putz !

          • http://fanonfiresportswire.com/ Maurice Barksdale

I think the coach should work for the GM and not the other way around. Coaches shouldn’t have the final say in personnel decisions. They should have input, but not the final say.

I’m not saying it can’t be done, because it’s being done. Bill Belichick and Mike Shanahan have similiar arrangements. And while the Patriots continue to have success thanks to Tom Brady, the personnel decisions as of late have not been as good as in the past.

          • Tophatal

It’s not so much Belichick when it comes to the Patriots’ staff , but his scouting assistants , coaching staff , but most of all GM Nick Caserio . Who to my mind is one of the most underrated GM’ s in the entire NFL . Much as in the same way Ozzie Newsome has been with the Ravens since 2000.

            Tophatal ……………………………

          • http://fanonfiresportswire.com/ Maurice Barksdale

Belichick still has the final say over personnel though. And even though he just won the Super Bowl, I doubt John Harbaugh has final say over personnel with the Ravens. I think it works better when the GM has final say, and when the coach works for the GM and not the GM for the coach.

          • Tophatal

That is definitely the case ! Caserio has worked wonders , but I feel that Newsome has been the most impressive of all the general managers in the NFL since 2000 ! Just look at the Ravens’ draft history over that time .

By comparison Caserio has been the Pats GM since 2010 , having succeeded Scott Pioli .

The issue I have with Belichick , is that in spite of his avowed proficiency when it comes to defense , the Pats have been an ongoing mess for the last two seasons , if not more in that one specific category . As a diehard Pats’ fan , it really irks me to the extent , I get way beyond being angry !

Last but not least , the issue of the most powerful man in sports . Hands down, it has to be Anschutz , not just because of his wealth , nut look at the sporting holdings ( part owner of the Lakers , owns Staples Center , Nokia Theater and land for the prospective venue for the proposed NFL Los Angeles franchise , Live Nation , Ticket Master , O2 Arena [branded named venues around the globe bearing that name] , and at least part share in five teams in MLS (soccer) as well as being the outright owner of the current MLS champions the LA Galaxy ). Bear in mind also his (Philip Anschutz) company AEG , is the largest sports’ concessions company on the planet , which is now on the market with an estimated worth , of $11 billion to $15 billion . One of the interested parties at present is Guggenheim Sports Properties , the present owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers .

The Guggenheim Partners Inc (holding company for GSP) , a venture capital firm with over $125 billion in assets is led by Mark Walter and Todd Boehly . Walter is a close personal friend of Magic Johnson , and as we now know the group paid $2 billion for the Dodgers, while an inflated price , it is a mere pittance , considering the $ 7 billion (two decade) television contract recently negotiated by the Dodgers’ front office with Fox Sports.
