Sam Bradford leads the Rams against the 49ers. Here is my San Francisco 49ers vs. St. Louis Rams pick for Week 4.
San Francisco 49ers vs. St. Louis Rams pick – Week 4
San Francisco 49ers - 1-2
St. Louis Rams - 1-2
The season hasn’t started out like either of these teams would have liked. The St. Louis Rams had been competitive in their first two games, but were blown out last week by the Dallas Cowboys on the road. The 49ers came into the season with a goal of getting back to the Super Bowl, but now they’re goal is to snap a two game losing streak.
Even though the Rams have struggled the past few weeks, their QB Sam Bradford is having his best season as a pro so far. But the Ram’s running game isn’t very good and they have been surprising bad defensively for a Jeff Fisher coached team, especially against the Cowboys.
49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has been in a slump lately, and he will need to break out of it to ensure they can beat the Rams. OLB Aldon Smith is on leave from the team as he receives treatment for substance abuse. Even though the Niners should still be good defensively, losing arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL for an extended amount of time is still a blow.
This being an NFC West division game makes the matchup even more crucial. I expect Kaepernick to play better in this game, but I think the passing game will be de-emphasized by head coach Jim Harbaugh in favor of establishing a power running game with Frank Gore. This will help Kaepernick cut down on his interceptions, and allow for more play-action passing with Kaepernick using his legs as well as his arm.
Sam Bradford has had surprisingly good success against the 49ers throughout his career, but not this time. The 49ers will win a tough, close game with Kaepernick getting things back on track.
Score prediction: 24-20 49ers
Points spread: 49ers - 3
