EJ Manuel leads the Bills against the Browns. Here is my Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns pick for Week 5.
Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns pick – Week 5
Buffalo Bills - 2-2
Cleveland Browns - 2-2
Here are two teams that have surprised in the first quarter of the season. Cleveland probably more so than Buffalo. As the Bills have good talent offensively, especially in running backs CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson. Cleveland made some nice moves in free agency, but they were still ranked low among AFC trams.
However, when starting QB Brandon Weeden went down with an injury, backup Brian Hoyer stepped in and has provided a spark to the Browns offense. The team created some controversy when they traded 2012 first round pick Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for another first rounder. But Hoyer’s play and a two game winning steak has silenced that controversy for now.
Bills rookie QB EJ Manuel has played better than expected, and seems to be a clear step up from last years starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. However, Manuel hasn’t been as effective on the road as he has at home, and although I think he will have his moments against the Browns. I think he will be bothered some by the raucous crowd in Cleveland, and by playing in the league spotlight in a Thursday night game.
Hoyer also stands a chance of having his bubble burst in front of a national audience too, but the Browns have the better defense, and playing at home should give them the advantage in a battle between two hungry young teams. The Browns win streak will continue.
Score prediction: 24-20 Browns
Points spread: Browns - 3.5
Over/under: 41 – Over
